If I could only swap one non-toxic product, this would be it…

If you are overwhelmed with all the ways we are being poisoned, I get it. When I started this journey, I felt overwhelmed too. But I started swapping the most important products first, and worked my way from there. One of the absolute most essential non-toxic products to swap out is your toothpaste. Not only is fluoride highly toxic (anything we can’t swallow we surely shouldn’t put in our mouth), but it’s just not necessary. There’s so much debate on this, but the science isn’t looking good for fluoride.

Many people will claim it’s only toxic if it’s in high levels, well… if all our drinking water has it added to it AND we are putting it directly in our mouth every day (twice, hopefully) can we really say we aren’t consistently exposed to this?

Better safe than sorry is my motto.

Back Story:

I was rarely taken to the dentist growing up, we were poor, my parents did the best they could. Sadly, this meant my dental care suffered big time. By the time I got older and took a handle of it, I was so far behind. I had to get thousands of dollars in repair done, and once I got to a decent place I began going regularly for my cleanings.

I swapped out my toothpaste and the next time I went in my dentist said my teeth looked great, that I could move from doing 3 month cleanings to 6 months. She was surprised how good they looked. I told her I was using a new toothpaste, I told her what it was and the active ingredient. She was surprised I knew about n-Ha and said she loved it! That she actually used it also, I asked her why they still give out flouride toothpaste then and haven’t mentioned it before? She said because she has to adhere to the dental association guidelines and technically could lose her license if she went outside of them. So I did a little digging and sure enough…

The American Dental Association (ADA): “The concept that professionals have a duty to treat the patient according to the patient’s desires, within the bounds of accepted treatment…”

“Within the bounds of accepted treatment…” oh I get it. Alternative therapies, even if highly effective, are hardly considered. Such is the basis of our failing (yes, failing) medical system. Money over profits. Guidelines over healing.

So this is why taking responsibility for our health is crucial.

Which brings me to my favorite remineralizing toothpaste. BOKA.

My favorites are the Ela Mint, the Whitening and I will be trying the Yuzu Charcoal for the first time with my recent purchase. I stock up for the best price point and let it last for months! Obsessed.
